Rooted here, connected across the North
Risør is the Centre’s home, but its horizon is wider: Nordic partnerships, northern languages and cultures, and an international conversation about Tolkien’s scholarship and imagination.

The North is not a backdrop
The Centre will explore the languages, literature and intellectual traditions Tolkien studied, without claiming him for one country or reducing the North to scenery.
Visitors will encounter a continuing conversation between scholarship, landscape and living northern cultures—and be invited to travel beyond Risør to experience it for themselves.
